Concert Report 1

Q This is the first of two concert reports that will be required this semester. Go online and catch one of the many performances that are being given for free by some of the greatest musicians in the world. The concert reports are to "classical" from the middle ages to the twentieth century. You may use any of the listening examples from the textbook for reference. Use a minimum of 6 terms when writing your report. A sample of these terms are the 4 characteristics of musical sound (pitch, duration, volume, and timbre) and 6 musical elements (rhythm, melody, harmony, timbre, texture, and form) from your Introduction Chapter. You can also use any terminology learned from The Basics of Music chapter (there are many terms used in this chapter that you can use). Use a minimum of 6 (six) terms when writing your report. Use full sentences (paragraphs, 12 font, double space). Give me your general impressions of the concert-pro & con. Most of this can be done in a one page response, but feel free to write longer if needed. PreviousNext

The concert I am reporting on is the Red Hot Chili Peppers performance at the Slane Castle on November 17th, 2003. I found it on YouTube a few years ago. The style of the music is alternative rock. The pieces in the concert are both vocal and instrumental. The dynamics of the song “Can’t stop” started out with Forte then transitioned into what I think can be called a combination of Pianissimo and Crescendo because the song starts off with what I believe is only a base guitar playing the same note at a low pitch that changes into a louder fast paced beat. The song is composed instrumentally by 4/4 standard time and in the key of E minor. I didn’t have any negative critiques.
